Ananthashayana Temple

Temple Description

The Ananthashayana Temple, situated 10 kilometers southwest of Hampi, is a stunning example of Vijayanagara architecture. Constructed in 1524 CE by Sri Krishna Deva Raya, this temple features an impressive Garbhagriha (sanctum sanctorum) that measures 70 feet in height, 20 feet in width, and 60 feet in length. Its striking vaulted dome adds another 30 feet to its height.

This Garbhagriha stands out for its grandeur and the architectural prowess of the era. The Antarala and Mahamantapa sections are adorned with exquisitely carved, towering pillars, characteristic of the Vijayanagara style. The temple’s outer precinct, or praakara, is also notably expansive.

Overall, the Ananthashayana Temple is a remarkable architectural achievement.
