Temple Description

: A R Madhva Sampradaya and Tantra Sara Sangraha written by Ananteshwara Shiva is the center of worship in the Udupi Anantheshwara Temple in Hinduism. India’s Anantheshwara temple is situated in Udupi. The temple is a special place where Parashurama is worshipped and the Linga, an iconic Shiva symbol is there. According to writer Roshen Dalal, “Parashurama is said to have claimed the region from the sea, and the city was a part of Parashurama Kshetra.” Here, according to legend, a monarch by the name of Ramabhoja worshipped Parashurama in the shape of Linga, who thereafter materialized on a silver throne (rajata pitha). Rajata Pitha is the name of the city in Sanskrit scriptures. In This shrine is staffed by Madhva Brahmin priests. According to Madhva Sampradaya and Tantra Sara Sangraha, which were penned by Madhvacharya, they have been performing poojas and ceremonies at the temples for the past 700 years

One of Udupi’s Ashta Mathas, Puttige Matha, is in charge of the temple, which is the oldest in the region. Many of Madhvacharya’s Tattvavada scripts were written here, where he also instructed his pupils and was adrushya (disappeared) to Badari to live with Vedavyasa.
