Temple Description

The Sri Shweta Varahaswamy Temple, also known as Varahaswamy Temple, is a renowned ancient site in Mysore and a popular destination for both travelers and pilgrims. Situated at the southern entrance of Mysore Fort, it features the distinctive Hoysala style of architecture. The stone idol of Shweta Varahaswamy was originally consecrated in Srirangapatna by Chikka Devaraja Wodeyar between 1672 and 1704. In 1809, the idol was moved to its current location in the temple’s sanctum sanctorum. The temple also houses images of Srivaishnava Acharyas, Desikar, and Jiyar, gifted by Krishnaraja Wodeyar III in 1829. Numerous inscriptions from various historical periods can be found within the temple, including one on the southern wall of the shrine that dates back to the early 13th century.
