Temple Description

The Someswara Temple (also known as Kodi Someswara Temple) dedicated to Lord Shiva is situated to the north of the Mysore Palace. This temple dates back to the 13th century and is built in the Chola style.

The temple consists of three shrines in three different chambers. The middle shrine is dedicated to Someswara and the shrines on either side are dedicated to Goddess Somasundari, an incarnation of Goddess Parvati and Lord Narayana. The navagrahas are also installed in the temple. Maharani Vanivilasa Sannidhana has contributed largely to the expansion of the temple.

The temple played an important role in the Dussera festivities during the reign of Jayachamaraja Wodeyar.
