Temple Description

The Sri Gaddige Kendaganneshwara Temple is situated in Gaddige village, near the Karimuddanahalli Post in Hunsur Taluk. Nestled by the tranquil Lakshmana Thirtha rivulet, this lesser-known temple is celebrated for its peaceful atmosphere and spiritual significance. Gaddige serves as the sacred site of Pavada Purusha’s revered deity, Sri Guru Kendaganneshwara Swami. The temple complex also includes the deities Sri Mahadeshwara and Sri Veerabhadreshwaraswamy.

Sri Guru Kendaganneshwaraswamy hailed from Shiggavi in Haveri District and was a devoted follower of Shiva. It is believed he lived during the Mysore Wodeyar dynasty, arriving in Gaddige village to embrace Sannyasa and establish a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. He is said to have lived for 80 years, with legends claiming he meditated on an Agni Kunda without suffering any harm.

The temple was founded by Sri Guru Kendaganneshwara Swamy in the 17th century and underwent renovations from 2006 to 2011, led by Mr. Mahadevappa (B.S. Mahadev) from Shimoga. The temple has since been expanded and attracts numerous devotees from across Karnataka. It also provides daily Anna Dasoha to pilgrims.
