In the Hassan district of Karnataka state, India, in the historically significant town of Halebidu, is the Hoysala-era Kedareshwara Temple (often written “Kedaresvara” or “Kedareshvara”). It is not too far from the well-known Hoysaleswara Temple. Built by Hoysala King Veera Ballala II (r. 1173–1220 CE) and his Queen Ketaladevi, the temple is dedicated to the Hindu deity Ishwara, also known as Shiva. The Archaeological Survey of India has designated the temple as a monument of national significance and is safeguarding it.
