Kukke Shri Subramanya Temple

Temple Description

Kukke Subramanya Temple, located in the village of Subramanya within Kadaba taluk (formerly part of Sullia taluk) in Dakshina Kannada district, Karnataka, India, is a revered Hindu shrine. The temple is dedicated to Kartikeya, also known as Subramanya, who is worshipped as the lord of serpents. According to the epics, divine serpents like Vasuki sought sanctuary under Subramanya to escape from the Garuda. The temple’s rituals and ceremonies are conducted by Shivalli Madhwa Brahmins following the traditions outlined in Madhvacharya’s Tantra Sara Sangraha.

The temple is nestled in the Western Ghats and is beautifully set against the backdrop of Kumara Parvatha, a popular trekking destination. The mountain of Kumara Parvatha offers a stunning view from the temple, while the nearby Shesha Parvatha, resembling a six-headed serpent, appears to shield the temple. The area surrounding the temple is lush with dense evergreen forests, enhancing the serene and picturesque setting.
