The Ragigudda Sree Prasanna Anjaneyaswamy Temple, commonly known as Ragigudda Temple or Ragigudda Anjaneya Temple, is dedicated to Lord Hanuman and is situated on a hillock in the Jayanagara 9th Block area of Bengaluru, Karnataka, India. Covering 5 acres, the temple complex also features a Shivalinga, along with deities Lord Rama, Goddess Sita, and Lord Lakshmana, in addition to the main deity, Lord Hanuman. At the base of the hillock, there are smaller temples dedicated to Lord Ganesha, the Navagrahas, and Goddess Rajarajeshwari. A Thrimurthy Sannidhi, showcasing the Hindu trinity of Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu, and Lord Shiva, is also present on large engraved rocks adjacent to the temple.
The hillock, known as “Gudda” in Kannada, was named “Ragigudda” after a heap of Finger Millet (Ragi). According to local legend, the hillock’s origin is linked to a pious woman named Sudharma, the wife of a local chieftain. When the holy trinity visited her in the guise of beggars, she offered them newly harvested Ragi. Her mother-in-law’s disapproval led to a dispute, and the Ragi was transformed into a hillock as a result. Pleased by Sudharma’s selfless act, the holy trinity decided to remain near the hillock, manifesting as stones that bear their engravings.
The temple was established in 1969 and officially registered in 1972. Currently, Namma Metro construction is underway nearby, with a Yellow Line station planned in close proximity to the temple.
