Temple Description

There are various theories regarding the actual age of the temple. It is often said that the temple could be more than 2000 years old. It could be around 4000 to 5000 years old. The Saint that did tapasya in the temple attained mahasamadhi in the same place.

There is a beautiful history associated with the temple establishment. A civil contractor named Mariappa Swamiji was working in Sri Vishwanath temple in the Nandi Hills. A sage whom he used to visit gave him the task of identifying a similar kind of sage who was doing Tapasya in the caves of Bangalore. Finally, after a lot of research, Mariappa discovered Saint Ramanand Swamiji meditating in the cave of Hulimavu. After, the death of the saint, a temple was finally carved out of the cave with the rest of the ancient structures intact.
