Temple Description

Kalleshwara temple (also spell Kallesvara or Kalleshwara) is located in the village of Bagali (called Balgali in ancient inscriptions) it was 9km away from Harpanahalli city in the Vijayanagara district of Karnataka state, India.

The Rashtrakuta Dynasty, which ruled from the middle of the 10th century, and the Western Chalukya Empire, which was founded in 987 AD by King Tailapa II (also known as Ahava Malla), are the two Kannada regimes during which the temple was built. (the dynasty is sometimes called Later or Kalyani Chalukya). A person by the name of Duggimayya performed the temple’s dedication.[1][2] “Late Rashtrakuta vimana (shrine and tower) with erotic carvings, and a closed mantapa (hall), fronted by a Later Chalukya non-mainstream open mantapa,” is how art expert Adam Hardy describes the temple’s architectural style. soapstone serves as the building material for it.” It’s possible that the tower that stands over the shrine was rebuilt at a later time. The Archaeological Survey of India has designated the temple, whose grounds have produced 36 ancient Kannada inscriptions (danashasana, lit., reporting contributions) from the tenth and eleventh centuries, as a site of national significance.
