Temple Description

The Seebi temple built by Lakshminarasayya, Puttanniah and Nallappa is dedicated to the memory of Kacheri Krisnayya and Alamelamma, their parents, as homage who performed ‘Sati’. Inscriptions related to this were found at their palace ‘Vasant Mahal’ in Tumkur.

Seebi, is a small village, located about 25 kilometers to the north of Tumkur district in Karnataka. Seebi is 24 km south of Sira.

Seebi was the vanaprastra ashram of Shibi Chakravarthy. Shibi Chakravarthy wanted to worship Lord Narasimha and in return Lord Narasimha enshrined himself as Narasimha Shaligrama in Seebi Village.

Lord Narasimha is shaped larger than a linga, and is facing north east direction. Lord Narasimha is in the divine form of a shaligrama. Subsequently, this Shaligrama was also worshipped by Lord Sri Rama, for begetting issues. It is also said that Chandrahasa, the then king of Kuntala also worshipped the Narasimha Shaligrama for removal of obstacles.

The temple owes its inception to the three sons of Kacheri Krishnayya, who served as a Dewan in the early Mysore court of Immadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar. The three brothers Laksminarasayya, Puttanniah and Fauzdar Nallappa had enriched themselves by collecting the revenue of the district in the days of Hyder Ali and Mummadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar . Subsequently, they decided to atone for their oppressions by works of charity. They also built several temples in Tumkur district notably Bellavi Someshwara Temple, Kotnalli Anjaneya Temple & Chatrada Narasimha Temple.

Goddess Lokamba Devi resides in the prakaram of the temple. For unmarried boys and girls, there is a strong belief that if Kalyanostavam is performed she bestows a spouse very fast.

Bramharatotsavam is performed on Maasa Nakshatra, Poorva Phalguna nakshatra of Magha Maasa. A grand Car-Festival (Jaathra) is conducted for 7 days.

Annual Special Days like Brahmostava, Mahabisheka, Kalyanostava, Narasimha jayanti etc are performed.
