Demon Arunasura obtains special powers from Lord Brahma, rendering him immune to death by any two- or four-legged creatures. Armed with this boon, Arunasura unleashes chaos on earth, and no one can stop him. To confront this threat, Goddess Durga descends to Earth. In an attempt to evade capture, she transforms into a rock. When Arunasura tries to crush the rock, an army of bees emerges and stings him to death. Because bees are neither two-legged nor four-legged, they bypassed Arunasura’s invincibility. To commemorate this victory, sages and saints established the Durga Parameshwari Temple in Kateelu and performed special pujas.
The Brahmakalashotsava is the annual festival of the Kateelu Durgaparameshwari Temple, typically celebrated in January and February.
