In the Hanur taluk of the Chamarajanagar district of southern Karnataka, there is a pilgrim town called Male Mahadeshwara Betta (Kannada: ಮಲೆ ಮಹದೇಶ್ವರ (also ಮಾದೇಮ್ವರ)). It is located roughly 210 km from Bengaluru and 150 km from Mysuru. Sri Male Mahadeshwara’s historic and revered temple is a pilgrimage site where Mahadeshwara lived, practiced medicine as Sidda, and instructed people in ahimsa in and around the seven hills. It attracts thousands of pilgrims from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. The current surrounds of the temple span 155.57 acres (0.6296 km2). The temple also owns land in the villages of Indiganatha, Haleyuru, and Talabetta. Nestled amidst a thick forest, the shrine draws in both nature enthusiasts and pilgrims.
