Temple Description

The temple is located in the Mandya District’s heggur road Bannur.

According to legend, a saint previously pondered at the location where the temple now stands. An ant hill appeared in the same spot during one of his lengthy tapasyas, and no one could see him. A cow was observed to be giving milk while standing close to the ant hill. When the village chief uncovered the ant hill one day after noticing this, he discovered a shivalinga inside.

In his dream, Lord Shiva advised him to do poojas every Thursday and Sunday, a custom that is still observed today. The name of the tree he meditated beneath, “Matti,” is where the location received
