Legend has it that Chaudamma, a powerful deity who had been invisible for millennia, revealed herself to the elders of the Deeva community in Sigandur, Kalasavalli village.Kalasavalli and Shiragalle, neighboring villages separated by the Haradur stream, were home to the Kollanayaka family of Hakkalamane. This ancient family owned land in Sigandur, Devikanu, and Shiragalle and worshipped Chaudamma in a sacred grove under a Brahat Sampi tree.
Chaudamma’s influence grew, leading to both fear and reverence. Villagers would offer prasadam and make rituals to seek her protection from misfortunes like theft or crop damage. Her blessings were highly sought after, and those who ignored her were believed to suffer.
The Kollanayaka family, who lived in Sigandur for seventeen generations, were respected leaders known for their integrity. They owned 25-28 acres of land and were admired for offering interest-free loans, unlike other wealthy farmers. Their fairness and generosity made them esteemed figures, with many seeking their blessings and guidance.
