Shree Surya Narayan Swamy Temple is located in Mysore, Karnataka, India. It is one of the few temples of the sun god in the world. The temple was built by Shri Raghuveersingh on 2nd July 2006. The temple is beautifully built by skilled artisans and craftsmen in Chola style using rock granite. Ratha Sapthami is an auspicious festival celebrated by Hindus and dedicated to Lord Surya. It is during this time that Surya/Sun moves from southeast to northeast. Hindus worship Surya Bagwan for better health and well-being. Ratha Saptami indicates the change of season towards spring which is the beginning of the harvest season. For most Indian farmers, this is an auspicious start to the new year. The festival is celebrated by all Hindus in their homes and in countless temples dedicated to Surya, all over India this day falls on month of January 30. On this auspicious day, women place a rangoli with a representation of the Sun God with 7 horses on a chariot. Eurkkam leaf (Arka leaf) is another important aspect of this day. Married women take a holy bath by placing 7 erukkam leaves on their body with a pinch of turmeric and pacharisi (raw rice) on the leaf. One sheet is kept on the head, two on the shoulders, two on the knees and two on the feet while washing. Men will bathe only with erukkam leaves and rice without turmeric.
